Book cases for kids

B and I volunteered this morning, painting book cases that will go to local daycare centers. We started out with a blank canvas, and we were eager to do this.
The painting supplies they provided were lacking a bit, so we struggled and had some frustrating moments. But the end result wasn't that bad.
There is the finished product, with our "price-is-right" model B.
Hope the kids like it.

Moving into the dorms

This has been a big year for my sisters. First they graduated from high school, and now they are moving out into the dorms, ready for their first year at college.

I took half a day off so I could help them out. Below are some of the pics of the new dorm they are sharing.
1) Mom and dad, exhausted after a morning of chaos
2) Here is the before picture3) My sisters, dad and me
4) Just us girls
5) Z's desk
6) M's desk
7) M's side of the dorm
8) Z's side

10) The opposite side (and my sisters have cable - I am so jealous)
Wishing you all the best in college, girls! Enjoy every moment during this time as it's short and fleeting. I am so proud of you!

Knitting soothes my soul

It's been a while since I knitted something. Somehow, smooth bamboo sticks and warm yarn don't seem that appealing in the summer time. But I have missed how serene and mindful knitting makes me. So I decided to finish a scarf for my friend S. Here it is, in all its soft and colorful glory:
I am also working on a pair of intricate and complicated socks, so I am thinking of starting another project that is a little simpler and fares well for movie watching and workday evening unwinding.

Ugh! Monday mornings...

Getting up on Monday mornings to go to work is so painful.
I would really rather be here right now:
Zzzzz...

Happy birthday, in-laws!

My mother-in-law and father-in-law have birthdays three days of each other. We had them both over at our house, along with my sister-in-law's family.
My hubby grilled...
...while I was responsible for the drinks and side dishes (although that yummy bread is my mom's doing - thank you mom and dad for bringing it over - I really appreciate you stopping by - the bread was a hit and was quickly devoured.)Sister-in-law brought the peas cupcake cake.
Here is everyone, laughing at my dog, who just jumped on the couch and plumped himself on my father-in-law's lap.
He was quite happy there (I must mention, my sister-in-law put some peanut butter on her dad's knee earlier - something my doggy was happy enough to clean up for him).
Our doggy also won't leave our nephew alone. He follows him everywhere. Poor M can't get away.
Bringing out the cake for hubby's mom and dad.
Singing happy birthday.
Birthday boy and girl (and grandson) blowing out the candles.
Puppy really wanted some of that. At this point, he was a bit tuckered out by the kids.
Afterwards, we all went go-carting and mini-golfing at a nearby recreational place. I was the fastest racer, and I also won at mini-golf. Go me!
Overall, it was a very pleasant family gathering, and our house is still clean. :)
