Out with the old, in with the new

This is "May" (short for Maytag). She is a 54-year old washing machine that seriously deserves retirement. While she tried her hardest to keep going, sometimes she would just pause for a breather. She is now resting in our basement until we can send her out on a cruise for a well-deserved vacation.
And now this is "Sam" (short for Samsung). Shiny and new, with lots of buttons. She is the sleek, modern, super-efficient gal with an advanced technology education. She will now be taking over May's work.
(Kupila sam novu veš ma
šinu. Ona stara je napravljena 1956-te godine, pa joj je vrijeme da penzioniše.)
And here is a head-shot of May. Sweet, plump and worn-out face.
And here is Sam. Rawwrr! She is hot.

Busy, busy Saturday

Normally I reserve Saturdays for relaxation, but today, it was all about getting things done. Without going into too much detail, here is a brief recount of tasks accomplished...
I took my sisters to our parents' house this morning, where we were greeted by our cousin Budo, who often comes on the weekends to visit. We then talked via web conferencing to family back in Bosnia and Switzerland. Technology is sweet.
My hubby, meanwhile, went and got our new water heater. Our old one is dying, so we are reaping some tax incentives to upgrade our digs.
My mom asked me to turn her expensive, square table cloth into an oval shape, to better fit her kitchen table. I felt honored that she'd trust me to cut and sew into this pretty cloth, so I did my best. Hope you like it, Mom!
Here is a zoom in of my work. I think it looks good.
And then in the evening, I made a beautiful rosemary artisan bread, and finished reading two books: "The Piano Teacher" by Janice Y.K. Lee (meh - I am a bit weary of WWII stories) and "Bright Lights, Big Ass" by Jen Lancaster (hilarious).
Next, I am watching SNL and drinking wine. Yay for Saturdays!

Out with the old, in with the new

This is our old heating/cooling unit (well, at least a part of it). It's as old as I am, and it's broke.
Today, it's been replaced by a super shiny new heating/cooling unit that is also crazy efficient, and henceforth, good for the environment and our wallet.
The old A/C unit was barely hanging in there. Poor thing.
The new, modern lean machine.
Big investment, but so worth it in the long-term.
