Weekend fun

Lots of things happening this weekend. On Saturday, we met my family at the World Food Festival. I can't believe that last year when I attended this event, I was pregnant and nauseous. This year was much more fun, even though we had to wait in line for a long time for most of the food we tried. But we had great company whilst waiting.

On Sunday, we visited some family friends, where Jackers got to hang out with some of his baby buddies.

Baby sign languge class, visiting cousins

Wednesday was a busy day. In the morning, hubby joined me at the child development center to attend the baby sign language class with Jack. We sing songs, play with toys, and sign with our hands. Jack just looks around and smiles at all the commotion.

He sits unsupported already. Of course, we still keep an eye on him so he doesn't hurt his noggin.

He is grasping for toys and chewing them all. He is also making attempts at crawling. Mostly he just looks like Superman on the floor, kicking and flailing his little baby arms and legs.

After work, my mom, Jack and I drove to my parents house to welcome my two cousins who were visiting for one night.

My cousin has a 5-month old baby boy, too, so he knew how to get Jack to laugh. He also got to play with grandpa.

Jackers was really tired by the time we went home. He fell asleep in the car after fussing about for a while (his new thing is hating to sit in the car seat). My tired little boy. What a fun day.

1st birthday party

This past weekend we celebrated a friend's first birthday party. Jackers was so good the entire time. I was so proud of him.

Random on a Saturday

This is going to be a post with unrelated bits added together without any clever transitions. It's late on Sunday night and I'm tired. Yet, I feel like it's time I make another post.

1. Out at Cheesecake Factory with my sisters. Baby boy's awesome stroller allows him to sit at the table without much trouble. He was well-behaved. I had fish tacos, hubby had a hamburger with blue cheese dressing.
Such a big boy
Healthy fish tacos for me
Not-so-healthy hamburger for hubby
2. Baby boy is enjoying his baths. He is such a joy.

3. Great family news! First we surprised hubby's grandmother by not telling her her son came up from Texas to see her. Then hubby's niece had a little surprise for all. She wore a t-shirt that said "I have a secret" on the front and... "I'm going to be a big sister" on the back! Jackers will have another cousin around his 1st birthday. We are all so excited!

4. My lunch and snacks for tomorrow. Hard-boiled egg, 1 oz almonds, 5 prunes, almond creme Greek yogurt topped with flax seed, Babybel light cheese, and 2 oz whole wheat penne mixed with lemon-zest tuna, 3 kalamatta olives and a teaspoon of capers.  I'm determined to eat healthy and in right portions.
Yum
That's all, folks!

Highs and lows and highs

It's been a while since my last post... I know, I know. It's just that time has passed too quickly lately. Mostly we are just busy with work, family stuff, bathroom renovations, and of course, baby. Here are some new developments.
My parents came back from their vacation
My mom celebrated her birthday
We also had some sad news. A cousin of my mom's passed away unexpectedly. We are still in shock and grieving along with his family. But through it all, my little guy has provided the most comfort.

More about lunch/Cousins visit

I received my Bento tiffin today, as well as some silicone cups for dividing my food. I really like it.
And here is my lunch for tomorrow. No longer boring-looking, plain old midday meal. There is a salmon-bean-arugula toss, and for snacks, I have yogurt, blueberries, grapefruit and a hard-boiled egg. It all fits and looks fun.
And for dinner, I've got some simple garlic spinach with chicken and sweet potato. Yum!
I think I'm getting hang of clean eating. The challenge will be to maintain it. Making lunch-packing a creative outlet sure helps.

Tonight we also had some great company. Hubby's cousins came over for a little while to meet Jack. It was so nice to see them all.
It's nice to see them all together. We were missing a couple more, but it was still nice and rowdy.

Shopping for baby

I was feeling a little stir-crazy on Saturday morning, so I packed my babe and we headed to the mall. He was so good and patient the entire time. I think he enjoyed all the stimuli.
Strollin' at the mall
Younkers had a yellow dot sale (70% off retail price), so I found some cute summer outfits for Jack - under $5 each!

Saturday was also Bastille's Day, so my Francophile sisters brought over some yummy pastries from the local French style bakery. They helped me clean up a little and played with Jack. We listened to some old school hip hop and watched parts of a Alfonso Cuarón movie before they left for a birthday party.

Overall, a fun day. Sunday was a little more low key. Not looking forward to going back to work. Weekends just aren't long enough. :(

Stripes and treats and a jumping Jack

Today we visited my family. Baby boy had a lot of fun cooing and laughing at everyone, and even showed off his almost crawling skills. His outfit coincidentally matched that of his majka and did. So cute!

Crawling with grandma - more matching stripes
While grandparents swooned over baby boy, his aunties and cousin S baked some delicious treats.

These treats were spongy and covered in chocolate and fluffy and coconut-hairy. I LOVE it!
Later, at home, while hubby and I prepared dinner, baby boy jumped around until he tuckered out and fell asleep.
So tired
We woke him up for a feeding and a bath and then we put him in his crib. Now mama needs to get ready for Monday madness - put away clean laundry, pack lunch and baby's stuff for day care. Wish weekends were longer.
